VT VT-72B Special track vehicle built on a T-72 medium tank chassis. It was designed to recover equipment stuck on an obstacle or equipment damaged in combat or even to make repairs. Its armour, resistance to weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and complete drive (engine, gearbox) were maintained and they are identical to the T-72 type. A strong 19-t crane and a winch were used during its operation. 2-member crew, consisting of a driver-technician and a commander-binder.
The series was designed at the ZTS VVÚ Martin between 1983 and 1987. A trial series was launched in 1988 and one year later production began. 50% of the production volume was delivered to the Czechoslovak People’s Army, and the rest, to the former Warsaw Pact members. It is a special armoured tracked battle tank, built on a T-72 type chassis.
